Meet one of the many brilliant women from south east Nigeria.
Ada Priscilla Nzimiro who was born in Port Harcourt Rivers State back in 1923 died in 1951 months after returning to Nigeria from Glasgow.
She was first admitted to the University of Glasgow in 1945 where she studied medicine. She graduated in 1950 to become the first woman from Igboland to qualify as a medical doctor.
To the surprise of her parents Mr Richard and Mrs Mary Nzimiro, Priscilla died of unnatural causes in 1951 before she could practice medicine in her country of birth.
Back then there’s nothing like visa for Nigerians. It was easy then for Nigerians to cross into the United Kingdom to study.
Things have changed now.
