The siege on some states in Northern Nigeria today seem not to have abated as Gombe is the latest state to come under attack.
Two blasts rocked the city today, killing five people, with one of the attacks targeting a military checkpoint, witnesses and a military source said.
The first blast appeared to be a bomb attack at the Tsohuwar Kasuwa market that killed two people, according to a witness, Muktar Abbani, but the cause of the explosion was not immediately known.
Moments later, a suicide bomber, riding on a motorcycle popularly called ‘Okada’ blew himself up at a checkpoint in the Kasuwar Katako area, killing a soldier and two others, said another witness, Musa Badamasi, and a military source in the area who requested anonymity.
According to eye witness accounts, the blast at the old Gombe market claimed the lives of a man and woman on a motorcycle at the main road directly opposite one of the gates of the market.
