Army Recaptures Five Towns From Boko Haram

Nigerian army said February 2, today, that 5 towns, including Gamboru, have been recaptured by the military from Boko Haram.

The statement followed a successful joint weekend offensive launched by the Nigerian military and vigilantes together with the forces from Chad and Cameroon.
National security spokesman Mike Omeri said:
“Our troops are in control after operations which had the active support of volunteers (vigilantes) and our friendly neighbours.”
According to Omeri, the other 4 towns reclaimed are Mafa, Mallam Fatori, Abadam, Marte, which information he disclosed in a separate statement.
It was provided by a correspondent in Fotokol, a Cameroonian town located close to Gamboru, the aerial bombardment of the area was ongoing earlier today, but it got calm by the evening.
It should be recalled that this weekend Boko Harammade another attempt to capture Borno State capital, Maiduguri. The attack was however repelled by the soldiers. It came a week after the insurgents had seized Monguno town, situated near Maiduguri.
