Shagari's Warns PDP Over Jonathan's Alleged Endorsement

The Family of Nigeria’s former President, Shehu Shagari has reacted angrily to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the alleged endorsement of its presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan.

The reaction which is the second in a row was contained in a statement issued by the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation on Friday.

APC said Capt. Bala Shagari (rtd), the eldest son of the former President warned the leadership of the PDP to stop dragging the name of his father into the politics of endorsement of their presidential candidate.
Capt. Bala, who holds the traditional title of Sarkin Mafaran Shagari, said his father should be allowed to rest and enjoys his retirement life, adding that it was embarrassing for his father to be dragged into partisan politics, which brings needless distractions into his private life in retirement.

He, however, cleared the air that while his father continues to pray for the peace, unity and stability of Nigeria, it is wrong for any political party or group of politicians to use his name in their endorsement campaign without the former president official authorization, because such group or party wants to spread its personal interests.
It would be recalled that last week, Nigeria’s former President, Shehu Shagari, through his son,  Muhammad Bala Shagari publicly refuted a story that he endorsed President Jonathan for second termand lauded his administration’s performance so far.

Meanwhile, its kind of strange that this kind of reaction is still trailing the alleged endorsement by the northern elder statesman, Shagari even after President Jonathan during his Sokoto campaign informed the North that he is not their enemy.
