FMC Hospital in Jalingo has confirmed 3 persons dead and two others currently receiving treatment following a Lassa fever outbreak in Taraba.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Wiza Inusa, disclosed yesterday, while chatting with journalists on the update of the outbreak. Inusa, who noted that the outbreak began on December 25, last year in the state, said: “So far, we have a total number of five cases of which we have had three mortalities.”
He further urged the public not to panic, as “every effort is being made to contain the spread of the disease,” even as he advised the residents to engage in simple basic hygienic procedures to contain the situation.
“As we all know that the disease is carried by rodents, hence there is need for simple basic hygienic procedures as to how they preserve their foods, how to keep the plates and pots properly in their houses, as well as clean the environment so that it does not invite or inhabit rats,” he explained.

The Medical Director, however, urged the people to report to the hospital whenever they experience any strange health condition in their body.
