Meet National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno

Following the sack of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, President Muhammadu Buhari has yesterday, July 20, appointed Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd).
We have  gathered up some interesting facts about Nigeria’s new NSA.

1.General Monguno comes from Borno state, Northern Nigeria.
2. Monguno’s farther was an ex Federal Cabinet Minister for Internal Affairs, Mines and Power during the 1960s-70s.
3. He attended King’s College, Lagos.




4. Retired General is an architect. He holds a PhD in Architecture from the United Kingdom.
5. He is an erudite polyglot, he speaks Nigeria’s 3 main languages (and others) fluently.
6. He is a King’s College Old Boy(KCOB)Lagos and was top of his class at all military levels.
7. Before his retirement from the military, he held several command and staff appointments comprising Commander, Guards Brigade, Deputy Commandant, National Defence College, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Chief of Defence Logistics and Commander, Training and Doctrine Command.
8. Monguno voluntarily retired from the Nigerian Armed Forces in September 2013 after turning 56, the age upper limit for Majors General in the military.
9. During the inauguration of President Goodluck Jonathan on May 29, 2011, it was a fidgety Monguno who demanded the network workers to close Abuja networks for the duration of the ceremony out of fear of terrorists’ strike. He also ordered the shutting of the entry routes into the city. The only respite was to allow those who wanted to leave the city to do so”.
10. Monguno’s tenure as Chief of Defence Intelligence was called a tyrannical. His era witnessed a gradual killing of the agency.
